Wantage - Home

Colts 3 Wantage 2

The U14's turned round their result from last week to come back from behind to take all 3 points against Wantage.

Opportunities were given to some squad members who had not been starting reguarly with changes being made throughout the team.

Although Colts started the stronger in the opening minutes it was Wantage who capatalised on some sloppy play & indecision reacing in to a 2 goal lead after 20 minutes. Colts were kicked started into playing football but Wantage held their nerve up until the closing minutes when Colts were offered a lifeline in the match when Matty Bishop latched onto a right wing cross to guide the ball home into an empty net 2-1 to Wantage at half time.

A stern talking to at halftime & Colts started to raise their game taking control on the pitch & playing some decent football. Their efforts were rewarded when after some good footwork Jack Arnold cutinside several Wantage players & drilled the ball hard & low past the Wantage keeper. Indecision & sloppyness crept back into some of Colts play & Wantage searched for another goal but against the run of play James Allen raced between the Wantage centre backs to fire the Colts ahead & secure 3 hard worked points.

Well done boys for turning the game around but 2 silly mistakes cost us with soft goals. You listened to Chris & I over this weekend now we progress & grow even stronger.

A special congratulations to James Allen for hitting double figures for the season 10 goals & leading the way.

Summertown-Away

The U14s unbeaten run came to a contriversial end when they went down 3-2 away to top of the league Summrertown.
the match nearly didnt go ahead but for some quick work to clear access water of the pitch. In the sticky conditions it was colts whom seem to adapt the better & started to play the ball around well. both sides findin chances few & very far between in the difficult conditions it was colts how took the advantage racing into a 2 goal lead at half time with a brace from james Allen.
The 2nd half summertown came out hungrier although Colts frustrated them & had several early chances to increase their lead. Summertowns determmination paid of & were able to pull one back midway through the half. Their equiliser came from a contriversial corner the ref had awarded even though the ball had clearly struck a Summertown player.
With time ticking away it looked as though Colts could settle for a share of the points until right in the last minute some confusion & a small ruckus on the far side of the pitch saw the Summertown linesmine intervine with the ref from the resulting confusion the ref awarded Summertown a free kick close to the 18yrd line Summertown scored direct from the kick & then the ref immediately blew the whistle.

A good 1st half boys in which we should of killed the game off an indifferent 2nd half performance. Learn from your mistakes lift your haeds & start preparing for next weeks match.
